GP5 14th January 2003
A few notes from our hard working Handicapper
Had a few problems last night - and I was only spectating. There were
2 more
runners timed than actually reported to the number takers at the finish
- so
if anyone thinks that their time is incorrect then they can spectate with
me
at the next GP and help our extremely hardworking volunteers.
I am looking for a large dog owning person (it matters not whether large
is
beast or human) to waylay Peter Calboutin during the next GP. Surely there
has to be a way of ensuring that the result of the "Yellow Jersey"
is in
doubt until the finish of GP8.
Congratulations nearly have to go to Bill Nicholson who completed his
99th GP
yesterday. All being well he will join John Brown and The Lord Catley
on
reaching the century next month. (At least Dad's Army/Zimmermen are leading
at something).
Also good to see that another Dad's Army/Zimmerman has responded to the
audacity of the teenage and over fifty brigade by turning in the fastest
time
of the evening.
It is not true that a certain VH helped me at the finish yesterday - he
actually did "run" more than 4 minutes slower that Iain Twaddle.
I am getting worried about our Morpeth colleagues - the ancient Chris
was
still about 4th fastest in spite of threatening the andy capper and
pontificating with Tony Mellor, who was 5th fastest on the night, about
the
fact that "We ran the Morpeth on Sunday - our handicaps should be
adjusted".
To add to this Baroness Linda Bray emulated the feat of her team mate
in the
previous GP by finishing 4th on the night and managing to gain a Tshirt
Was also worried about Stephen Clark who finished 2nd on the night and
3rd
fastest overall 'cos when I said "Would you like L or XL for your
Tshirt?" he
replied "M please".
The conversation was repeated about four times so I gave in and threw
him a
"L" Tshirt.
By the way Lord Kear of Claremont - what has happened to Coventry lately?
I
would have expected some comment from you what with His Eminence's team
being
bitten savagely by a pack of wolves
Regards to all
Phil
